"Every Bit Counts"
This was the first foray I made into sewing and textiles for the Ephemera Project. It has a piece of my son's 'comforter' - the Blue Cush as it was known, A pottery bee my potter friend made for me, A piece off a belt from my childhood, A guitar string from my other son and most of the threads and silks are from my Gran's old sewing box.
"Small Treasure"
This is made from an old jewelry box that was my Gran's and inside are small stones my sons called 'treasure' that had been found and gathered on our many walks together when they little. The quote dropped into my life at the same time I was making this and I thought it fitted perfectly.
"Going with the Crease"
This piece of material had been stashed away for many years and was full of creases that proved impossible to iron out. So I was inspired to just follow the shapes the creases made. Made from pieces of old watercolour paintings and all the blue threads in my Mum's old sewing tin.
"Hidden Landscapes"
I was doing a lot of walking at the time of the Ephemera Project and was moved by all the colours around me, some of them quite unexpected, like seeing grass that appeared blue on a misty morning. The trees were made from the ends of shoe laces and the linens were scraps a friend had given me after an upholstery project.
