The Ephemera Show by Bury Art Collective

The Ephemera project is a collaborative textile art work by members of Bury Art Collective which was begun before the pandemic took hold and has been waiting for its moment in the light ever since.

Each artist worked to a set of rules to make a small square using only materials which were waste, recycled or already in their possession. Even the final presentation uses old fastenings and second hand materials. The aim is to highlight the ingenuity and skill of each artist as they interpreted their random fabric and objects to create an engaging or thoughtful image.

Along the base of the Ephemera Project is another complementary display of textile work called “The Garden”. These are embroideries made by refugees in Bury supported by one of our Bury Art Collective artists. For these people it is their first time to have work shown in an exhibition and they are delighted to be part of this.

The Ephemera Project is a part of the British Textile Biennial which runs throughout October at many venues within easy reach of Bury. Check their website for exhibitions, workshops and events.

This show is part of the celebrations for Bury's time as the Town of Culture which was also interrupted by the pandemic. We are now trying to make up for lost time and hope that the people of Bury will enjoy the innovation of the artists and reflect on the issues raised by our project.

The exhibition is in a novel location - displayed in the windows of the Castle Leisure Centre - so will be visible at any time in a Covid-safe format for everyone. Information will be shown alongside the work and you can revisit any time!
